Discover the charm of this old railroad bank and Dr. Office!

First built to house the Farmers Bank of Oak Hall in 1914. The bank stayed in operation until its closure- due to receivership, in 1927.

Shortly afterward, it briefly operated as a Post Office until its conversion to a doctors office in 1955.

The doctors office belonged to the late Dr. Donald Frank Fletcher Jr.- whom, to this day, is still remembered as a loving, compassionate, doctor- where your arrival to the office was "first come, first serve", but it was OK if you couldn't make it to the office because as a country-side doctor, he also made regular house visits!

One common phrase that seems to circulate around Dr. Fletchers demeanor-

was he treated you as family.

Something he seemed to know much about, considering directly to the the west of where the bank sits- Dr. Fletchers brother, Robley Fletcher, operated a 3 story hardware store known as Donald F. Fletcher and son for 40 years.

In 1981, the store was robbed and then set ablaze.

It took ONE HOUR for the three story building to burn down, while taking an abandoned grocery store with it.

In one hour, a family lost 40 years of their life and we all lost a piece of history connected to Dr. Fletcher and this building.

Once inside, you can still find Dr. Fletchers name plaque securely screwed into the original door.

Dr. Fletcher refurbished the interior of the building with pine paneling when he first established his medical practice in 1955. The interior also features its original 12 ft. ceilings! Dr. Fletchers office remained in operation until his retirement in 1988, where the building then sat vacant for 17 years until it was bought and then rented out to multiple businesses until its latest conversion, in 2018, to a Short Term Rental.

The Mayson Paige is nestled on a quiet street with a 15 minute drive to Chincoteague and Saxis!
